Learn About The Spine
The spine is divided into 5 main sections that have a major impact on all areas of the body. Within each spinal section, there are individual vertebrae that align down the backbone.
When these become misaligned, you can experience symptoms in other places of the body. Sometimes the symptoms appear far from the spine itself. Spinal health is extremely important for the overall health of the body.
Five regions of the spine
- Cervical: neck region; supports the head and influences arms, hands, and upper body nerve pathways
- Thoracic: mid back; connects to the rib cage and relates to posture and mid trunk function
- Lumbar: low back; bears significant load and commonly relates to sciatica and low back pain
- Sacrum: base of the spine; connects the spine to the pelvis
- Coccyx: tailbone; small but can be a source of localized pain after trauma
